2 Corinthians 9 Bible Study
In 2 Corinthians 9:1-5, Paul encouraged the Corinthians to give generously to help the needy Christians in Jerusalem. He said he boasted about their generosity to the Macedonians, about how they were so ready to give last year and their enthusiasm in giving had inspired the Macedonians to give. Therefore, Paul urged the Corinthians to make the donation in advance before he arrive so that he won’t be embarrassed about having so much confidence in them. In this way, the gift will seen as a generous gift, not a gift that is given unwillingly.
In 2 Corinthians 9:6-11, Paul uses the analogy of a farmer sowing seed to compare our giving to God. As the farmer sows the seed, he will lose the seeds. But if the farmer holds back the seed, he should expect a smaller crops during the harvest season. We may feel that we are losing money when we give but we must trust in God’s promise that he will surely bless those who give to him. When we give to God, we must give with a right heart, not grudgingly or of necessity but give it with a happy heart so that your giving will be a worship to God and give him all the glories.
In 2 Corinthians 9:12-15, when you give, you are doing a good deed of helping needy people and it is also a form of thanksgiving. God has blessed us in many ways. Everything that we have is from God. If God has bless us, we should also bless others. Your generosity in giving will be a good testimony to other Christians so that they will also be encouraged to give.
