Bible Study Outline on Twisting God’s Word

Twisting God’s words is defining God’s words to the way you want to understand it. Everyone has a free will to follow God’s commandments. God will not force you to walk in his commandments. We have a free will to choose what we want to believe. There are many Christians who twist God’s words, by changing the real meaning of a scripture, for their own benefits. The bible says that many false prophets will rise up at the end time. False prophets are those who did not preach the gospel and God’s words correctly. Examples of false prophets are Jehovah’s witnesses, Mormons, false prophets who are actually under the leadership of Satan.

2 Timothy 2:15 says that it is important to study the word so that we can be a workman that need not to be ashamed but rightly diving the word of truth. It is important that you study God’s words so that you understand it correctly. If you don’t have good understanding of God’s words, there is a tendency that you can misunderstood it and easily led astray by someone else’s false preaching. Many Christians do not read the bible but they only go to the church every Saturday or Sunday to hear the preacher’s preaching. If the preacher preach the word falsely, they will also misunderstand it and not abide in Christ in their lifestyles.

It is dangerous to have little knowledge of the bible. A Christian should finish reading and studying the whole bible. If you don’t understand what you read in the bible, you can ask an elder or fellow Christian that knows the bible. Many Christians want to go to preachers that preach what they want to listen. We should not be like that but be humble and choose to listen to the truth.

The Pharisees are the false teachers in the days of Jesus. Jesus Christ pointed out that the Pharisees do everything as a show to the public. They do not practice what they preach. We must take God’s words exactly what they mean instead of trying to find ways to change the meaning to suit your convenience.

For example, when God says do not put tattoo marks on yourself (Leviticus 19:28), you should not look at the word in front do not cut your bodies for the dead and give an excuse that God is actually referring to those who mourn for the dead should not to tattoo themselves. The Old Testament commandments still apply to Christians and they are still obliged to follow them. However, Christians no longer have to follow the ritual and complicated commandments in the Old Testament.

Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. (Psalm 56:5 KJV)

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. (2 Timothy 4:3-5 KJV)

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. (1 Timothy 4:1-3 KJV)
