1 Peter 1 Bible Study

In 1 Peter 1:1-2, Peter, the author of this letter, is one of the twelve apostles. An apostle is one sent forth by God to preach the good news. Peter wrote the letter to the Jews that were scattered in the northern part of Asia Minor. Christians living in this region suffered greatly from the persecutions of the ones that do not believe in Jesus. We come to know Jesus because God chose us to believe in him. Nothing happens by chance. It was God’s will that we come to know Jesus, so that we are now Christians. The Holy Spirit guides you towards the right path so that you can discern between right and wrong and walk in God’s ways. When you obey Jesus, it means you have fully renounced your sins and repented. Then, Jesus Christ will use his blood to cleanse and purify your sins. When you believe in Jesus and do his wil, Jesus will give you a peace in your heart. You will feel peace in your heart and inherit the promises of God.

In 1 Peter 1:3-4, Jesus Christ is the son of the Father God. God loves us so much that he sent his only son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross. Later, he resurrected Jesus Christ from the dead on the third day.Through the blood that Jesus shed, our sins are forgiven and we have been given a new life. As a born again Christian, our sins are nailed to the cross along with Jesus. This means that we are no longer our old selves. We are new creations in Christians. If you have accepted Jesus, you must stop sinning and start living a holy life. God will reward you with heavenly possessions that never decay when you do something for him for example, helping people, spread the gospels, convert new believers and etc.

In 1 Peter 1:5-9,if you persists in having faith in God and holding onto him tightly, God will protect you until the last day. The last day is near and we are living in the end time generation. When the day of judgment comes, all men who have know Jesus will stand before the throne and be judged according to their deeds. Therefore, we ought to be glad for the persecutions that we have undergone for Jesus. The persecution makes our faith stronger, like a gold that is tested in a fire. If you serve Jesus and live for him, you will receive your rewards in heaven. We don’t see God now but we will when we go up to live with him in heaven later.

In 1 Peter 1:10-12, since a long time ago in the Old Testament days, the prophets already prophesied about Jesus coming on earth (Micah 5:1-2). The real minister of God that brings the good news has the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God. After Jesus ascended to heaven, he asked the Father God to send the Holy Spirit (John 14:26). Anyone who wants to serve God must humble themselves and serve others first. Whenever a believer comes to Christ, the angles in heaven will rejoice over it (Luke 15:7).

In 1 Peter 1:13-16, we must always think of things that please God. Thoughts that do not please God should not be in our minds. We must be obedient towards God’s commandments. We must have a holy life for God is a holy being (Leviticus 20:7). Whatever bad habit that doesn’t please God, you must get rid of it so that you can live a holy life. If you need help in overcoming sin, you can tell it to Jesus. Jesus will help you when he sees that you sincerely wants to repent and overcome your sin.

In 1 Peter 1:17-25, God is the creator of all things. He loves everyone equally. Anyone who sins will be punished. If you do what he says, you will be honored by God. Born again Christians must get rid of their old way of life. This means that you must stop sinning once and for all. If you want to know how to live your life in a way that honor Jesus, you must read the Bible, go to the church and listen to the pastor’s sermon, join bible study group and etc. If you find difficulty in understanding the Bible, you can pray and ask God to give you enlightenment. You can ask someone at the church to explain the Bible to you. You can also do bible study with someone who is more mature in Christ. Jesus comes to the earth so that he can offer up himself as a sacrifice for our sins. God raised him from the dead so that we can have faith in God and have part in the heavennly kingdom. It is by the blood of Jesus that we are saved. Jesus is an innocent lamb. He didn’t commit a single sin while on earth. The glory of this earth including earthly riches, fame, and power are temporary because everyone will die one day.The most important thing is where you will go after you die. If you die without Jesus in your heart, you will go to hell. If you are a Christian, you will live with Jesus eternally in heaven. Whatever God says will come to passed (Matthew 24:35).
