2 Thessalonians 2 Bible Study
In 2 Thessalonians 2:1-5, when Jesus comes back for the second time, a trumpet will be sounded and those who are obedient to God will rise up to the heaven. Every now and then, you hear people talking about Jesus already come. We should not believe in what these people say as their messages are not from God. Jesus will come in a hour that no one knows so it is wrong to make prediction about when Jesus comes. All we can do is to be vigilant so that that day won’t catch us like a thief breaking into a house. Before the day of the Lord comes, there will be a lot of troubles. People will rebel. The antichrist will appear and oppose God’s law. He will be at God’s temple and blaspheme himself as God. The antichrist is a false prophet that the devil raises up to persecute the Christian’s faith. If you look back in history, you will see in news that there are many people who claim themselves as the antichrist. Despite that, they never gain a large group of followers. The real antichrist will gain a lot of followers and be a global leader.
In 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8, the devil is already working behind the scene. If you observe the today’s society, all kinds of evil including lawlessness, corruption in the church, godlessness, love of high position, and etc are already present in the world. The antichrist won’t appear until the Holy Spirit is taken out of the way. During the 7 years of the great tribulation, those who put their faith in Jesus and refuse to take the 666 mark will seal as belonged to God
In 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12, the antichrist will deceive the nation by performing miracles so that the people think he is God. These people are those with weak faith in Jesus. Although they can be saved, they chose not to. Because they chose to believe in the antichrist’s deception and not God’s truth, they will be condemned and punished.
In 2 Thessalonians 2:13-15, the Thessalonian church was the first church that Paul established in Thessalonica. Paul was thankful that God had used his preaching to help the Thessalonians accept Christ so that they can inherit eternal life and heavenly riches. Paul reminded the Thessalonians to follow the commandments of Christ closely so that they won’t lose their salvation.
In 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, the Father God loves us very much by sending his son to die for our sins on the cross. Previously, only the Jews get to inherit eternal life. Now, the gift of salvation is open to all who put their faith in Jesus. It was God’s choice that you come to believe in Jesus so nothing happens by chance. We came to believe in Jesus because we were chosen to receive the salvation.
