Colossians 3 Bible Study

In Colossians 3:1’“4, Paul asks the Colossians to set their mind on heavenly things instead of earthly things. Christians should always think of things that please God. Every evil thought that is not of God should be eliminated from your mind once and for all. The best way to get rid of evil thought is to replace it with good thoughts. To have good thoughts, you must concentrate on the heavenly things. When you only have good thoughts in your mind, the devil has no way in taking away your happiness. Not all earthly things are evil. For example, money is good but if you put money first in your life, having money can lead you away from God.

In Colossians 3:5’“9, as Christians, we should no longer obey the desires of our bodies. Every false desire that is not what God want in our lives should be eliminated. Paul rebuked all kinds of sins including sexual immorality, lustful thoughts, greed, revengeful, evil, hateful, insult people, and lying. Sexual immorality refers to all kinds of sexual sins including homosexuality, fornication, and lustful desire. Homosexuality means sex or marriage with people of the same sex. Fornication is having sexual intercourse with other people without getting married. All sorts of evil thoughts and evil deeds should be eliminated from your life. Every Christian has the choice to follow either the world or Jesus. God doesn’t tolerate people who disobey him. Even if you commit one sin, you will be condemned in hell.

In Colossians 3:10’“11, if you truly repent and change your old habits for Jesus, you will now be a new person. It is just like taking off dirty clothes and putting on a completely clean set of clothing. When you are a changed person in Christ, you will be eager to learn the word of God and obey his commandments. Christ died for the sins of the whole world, not just the Jews. Therefore, no matter if you are a Jew or not, it is all the same to God. Christ treats us all the same, regardless of your race, ethnicity, and skin color. Once you have accepted Jesus, he will live in come into your life and be your God.

In Colossians 3:12’“14, you came to believe in Jesus because God chose you (John 6:37). Christians should show good qualities such as humble, meekness, patient, kind and gentle. When someone offends you, you must not hate him or want to take revenge. We should forgive people no matter how they have offended us. Jesus said that the second greatest commandment is to love your neighbor as yourself. Showing love to others in your life is one way to manifest yourself as Christian.

In Colossians 3:15’“17, every Christian represents a bodily member of Christ. Christ is the head of the church and the church is the body of Christ. We must overcome every evil thought with godly thought. In this way, the peace of Christ will control your mind. No matter what circumstance you are in, you must be grateful. You can sing hymns and spiritual songs to express your gratitude to God. Everything you do should be for Jesus so that you can glorify his name.

In Colossians 3:18’“25, it is the duty of every Christian wife to put her husband in priority. Husbands must respect their wives and not abuse her. Children must listen to their parents and do what they say. Parents should not give their children too much requirements because this can discourage them. Servant should be obedient to their masters and do their work without fretting, just like they are serving Jesus.
