Matthew 20 Bible Study

In Matthew 20:1-16, Jesus tells of a parable to illustrates who will be the first and last in the kingdom of God. In the parable, a landowner goes into the marketplace and hire workers. He goes to the marketplace to hire workers at the third hour, sixth hour, ninth hour and eleventh hour. Although the worker that was hired at the third hour work for the longest time, he receive the same pay as the others. The workers were angry and complained against the landowner about it. The landowner answered them that he is not unfair and has the right them pay any amount of money they want. Each of us will be rewarded accordingly to what we have done. The ones that are humble and possess servanthood attitude will be the first in the kingdom of heaven. The ones who are proud will be the last in the kingdom of heaven.

In Matthew 20:20:17-19, Jesus predicted about his death and resurrection to his disciples. He predicted that he will be handed to the enemies and be crucified but he will be risen to life on the third day.

In Matthew 20:20-28, the mother of James and John, asked Jesus to let her sons sit on the right and left of his throne in the kingdom of heaven. Jesus said he could not grant these places to them because only the Father has the authority to assign them. When the other disciples heard about it, they were angry with the two disciples. Jesus reminded his disciples that whoever who wants to be the first in the kingdom of heaven must have a servant attitude and serve others instead of letting others serve you.

In Matthew 20:29-34, as Jesus was leaving Jericho, two blind men shouted out to him and ask him to have compassion on them. Jesus knew what they want but he asked them. Just like how Jesus asked the two blind men about their need, Jesus wants us to discuss our needs with him and ask him to help us. If you don’t pray and ask him for it, you will not receive it. The two blind men replied that they want to see again. Jesus had mercy on them. He healed their eyes so that they can see again. We must always be compassionate towards others and help people.
