Matthew 3 Bible Study
John, the Baptist, started his ministry earlier than Jesus Christ. He preached to the people to turn back to God. This fulfills the prophesy in Isaiah 40:3 that he is the messenger that prepares a straight path for the Lord. John’s clothing is made from the hair of camel. He wore a leather strap on the waist. His food is grasshopper and wild honey. John baptized the people with water but Jesus baptize the people with the Holy Spirit. We must receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit in order to be saved. Jesus came to John to be baptized by him. After John had baptized Jesus, the Holy Spirit descend on Jesus like a dove. God spoke from heaven and said ‘This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.’
John is a humble person. He felt that Jesus should be the one that baptize him. John understand that it is necessary for him to baptize Jesus. Every believer must undergo baptism. Baptism marks you as Christ’s. During baptism, you are submerged into the water for a while and come up again. Submerging in the water means you have been buried with Christ and die to your sins. Coming up from the water means you have been resurrected and alive in Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ has overcome death and resurrected. He had overcome all kinds of weaknesses so that we can gain victory through him. The Holy Spirit will enter into you during baptism. In Matthew 28:19, Jesus commanded his disciples to convert people and baptize them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ was reincarnated into a human so he has the same weaknesses as us. However, he did not sin in any way. He is a blameless lamb that was led to the cross to become the sacrifice for our sins.
