Exodus 24 Summary
God commanded Moses to instruct Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and the 70 elders to come up the mountain. Moses descended the mountain and told the people everything God said. The people responded by saying that they will do all that God had said. In the next morning, Moses woke up and built an altar. He set up 12 stone pillars. Each pillar represent the the one of the tribes of Israel.
Then, he offered burnt offerings and sacrificed young bulls as fellowship offerings. He put half of the blood of the sacrifice in the bowl and sprinkled the other half on the altar. After that, he read the Book of the Covenant to the people. Moses sprinkled the blood on the people and tell them this is the blood of the covenant.
Moses, Aaron, Nadab and Abihu and 70 elders climbed up the mountain and saw God. A pavement made of sapphire was under the feet of God. The pavement is clear as sky. They ate and drank in the presence of God.
Later, God commanded Moses to come up to him and he will give him the tablets of stone that contain his laws and commandments. Moses and his assistant, Joshua climbed up the mountain of God. Moses instructed the elders to wait for them to come back. Aaron and Hur will be with them. Anyone that faced a dispute can go to them.
A cloud covered the mountain and God’s glory settled on it when Moses ascended it. The cloud settled the mountain for 6 days. On the 7th day, God called Moses from within the cloud. God’s glory looked like a fire on top of the mountain. Moses entered the cloud when he ascended it. He stayed on the mountain for 40 days and nights.
Exodus 24 Bible Study
1. Worship God with a humble heart
In Exodus 24:1, God commanded Moses to worship him at a distance. We must come before God with a humble heart to worship him. In Psalm 95:6. let us bow down and kneel to worship God. God exalts the humble and bring down the proud. In James 4:10, humble yourself in the sight of God and he shall lift you up. In 1 Peter 5:6, humble yourself under God’s mighty hand and he will exalt you in due time. In James 4:6, God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. In Proverbs 16:18, pride comes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.
2. Jesus Christ’s blood serve as an atonement for our sins
In Exodus 24:5-8, Moses sacrificed some animals and sprinkle its blood on the altar and people. The blood serves as a blood of covenant. God forgive sins by the offering of the blood of a sacrifice. Jesus is the lamb who was sacrificed for our sins. Jesus did not sin during his lifetime so that he can be a pure and blameless lamb offered as the sacrifice for the atonement of our sins (2 Corinthians 5:21). His blood was poured out for our sins so that we can be forgiven and reconciled to God. In Romans 10:9, anyone who confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and savior and believe that he has risen from the dead can receive eternal life. The eternal life is a gift of grace for those who put their faith in Jesus Christ and follow him (Romans 5:9; Romans 3:25-26; Ephesians 1:7). Since you are now a born again in Christ, you must get rid of the old self and start living your life for Jesus (1 Corinthians 5:7).
