Leviticus 20 Bible Study

1. Idolatry is a sin

In Leviticus 20:1-5, sacrificing children to the Molech god is a sin. We should keep ourselves away from idolatry (1 John 5:21; Colossians 3:5; Psalm 16:4).

2. Be holy for God

In Leviticus 20:7, we must be holy for God and obey all his commandments (1 Peter 1:16). To love God is to obey his commandments and walk in his ways and his commandments are not burdensome (1 John 5:3). In James 2:10, breaking one commandment equally makes you a sinner.

3. Unlawful sexual relations

Leviticus 20 is about the punishments for the unlawful sexual relations crimes in Leviticus 18. Incestuous relationships, homosexuality relationships, relationship with animals are all sins against God. In 1 Corinthians 6:18, flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. In 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, for this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God.

4. All foods are clean

In Leviticus 20:25-26, God commanded the Israelites to abstain from eating animal or bird or anything that moves on the ground. In Acts 10:15, and the voice spoke unto him again the second time, What God has cleansed, that call not common. However, Christians should abstain from things strangled and blood. In Acts 15:20, but that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

Whatever you eat should not cause your brother or sister in Christ to stumble. In Romans 14:13-19, Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way. I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. Let not then your good be evil spoken of: For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.
