Numbers 35 Outline

– The 6 cities of refuge where a murderer who unintentionally kill someone can flee (Numbers 35:6-34)
Numbers 35 Summary
God commanded the Israelites to give 48 cities along with the pasturelands around them to the Levites. Six of the cities will be cities of refuge, a place where criminals can flee to and not be killed if they accidentally kill someone. The accused must stay in the city of refuge until the high priest die before he can return to his own property otherwise the avenger can kill him without any guilt.
No ransom is to be accepted for a murderer because he deserved to be put to death. No ransom is to be accepted for a person who had fled to the city of refuge so that he can return to his own property before the high priest die.
The other 42 cities will be for the Levites to live in. The pastureland is to extend out from the town wall for 1,500 feet, 3,000 feet on each side including east, south, north and west.
God warned the Israelites against murder because bloodshed caused the land to become polluted and no atonement can be made for the land except the blood of the one who shed it.
Numbers 35 Bible Study
1. Finding refuge in God
The cities of refuge represents God is our refuge. Jesus Christ had bore all our sins and weakness on the cross so that we can become conquerors in all things by confiding in him. We must trust in God at all times because he is our refuge (Psalm 62:8). Whenever you face a trouble, you should make God your refuge and strength. God will answer your prayer if you trust in him (Psalm 46:1; Psalm 91:2). God loved the world so much that he gave up his only son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins so that anyone who believe in him won’t perish but have eternal life (John 3:16-17).
