Bible Study on Exercising Godly Influence
Everyone has the power to influence others. You have influences others or have been influenced by others in various ways that you may not have known. There are two types of influences in this world including good and bad influences.
The world is full of bad influences. The devil is the god of this world. Therefore, it is important not to compromise and go after the practices and traditions in the world. When you accept the practices of the world, you will unknowingly become like the people of the world although you may still claim that you are a Christian. For example, a Christian who is fascinated by tattoo will try to convince himself that it does not clash against God’s commandments and go ahead to tattoo his body with all kinds of images. Tattoo is a type of rebellion against God. It does not produce a good testimony as you are behaving just like the people of the world.
Our sin can be a bad influence to others. Others may be tempted to join in your sin. Our sin can cause other unbelievers to deny and reject God. There are many consequences when you are receive negative influences such as misery, shame to parents, immorality, deny God’s existence, and heresy. On the contrary, the gospel bring positive influences that can change your life and behavior. For those who believe in the gospel, they will experience a good change in their life, from darkness to light.
We are to build up others with the word you say. The words you say can influence others so you must be careful with what you say. We should avoid gossiping, yelling at people or scolding vulgar words. If possible, you should always talk about the gospel to others. You may argue that no one will believe in you when you talk the gospel to them. You are just planting a seed of the gospel in them. Others will come along and preach the gospel to them as well. You should not worry about this but just let God do his work.
You can influence others through your lifestyle. As a Christian, you should live your life up to the standards of God’s commandments. When you present a good role model, it will be a good testimony to the non believers. Whatever you do should not be a stumbling block to others. You should always put God first in whatever you do.
