Bible Study Outline on 2 Timothy 2:20-21- God Can Use Everyone

Develop and Use Your Spiritual Gifts to Serve God

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. (2 Timothy 2:20-21 KJV)

God can use anyone who has a heart to serve him. Each of us are different members of Christ’s body. Christ’s body is the church. We all have different roles to play at the church. Everyone has at least one spiritual gift. You must develop your spiritual gift and use it to serve God. There are 9 spiritual gifts including the word of wisdom; word of knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy. discerning of spirits, divers kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:8-10).

Word of wisdom is the ability to understand the scriptures in the bible very well. When you are able to understand the bible very well, you can explain and teach it to others. Word of knowledge is the ability to know things in beforehand as revealed by the Holy Spirit. For example, when you want to pray for someone, the Holy Spirit may reveal to you that the person suffer from what problems so that you can pray for him. Faith is the ability to believe in God. Some people have lots of faith in God and this enable God to work through them to do miracles.

Gifts of healing are the ability to do healing miracles. Working of miracles is the ability to do various kinds of miracles. Prophecy is a gift where the Holy Spirit will often reveal to you about something that will happen in the future so that you can tell others about it. Discerning of spirits is the ability to discern between good and evil spirits. Divers kinds of tongue is the ability to speak the tongue language. Interpretation of tongues is the ability to interpret the meaning of a tongue language spoken by someone.

Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. (1 Corinthians 12:4-11 KJV)

Everyone Must Serve God in the Church

Everyone must serve God in some ways. You cannot just be a Christian, go to church, attend the cell group and do nothing to serve God. We all have the responsibility to build up the church. However, no one can do all the jobs at the church. It requires many people with different talents for a church to function properly. For example, some will be teachers at the church; some will serve in the Sunday School ministry, some will serve in the worship team and etc. If you don’t know your spiritual gift, you can pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you. After you know your spiritual gift, you must develop it by using it to serve God at the church.

Spiritual gifts are not bestowed on the believers for their own benefits, but for the edification and building up of the church. Therefore, you must use your spiritual gifts selfishly but to help build up other Christians and the church. Jesus Christ said that more will be demand from those who have been given more talents and less will be demand from those who have been given less talents. You must use your spiritual gift to faithfully serve God and turn people to God because you will have to give account for that on the Judgment Day.

Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:5 KJV)

But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. (1 Timothy 3:15 KJV)

In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:22 KJV)

For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building. (1 Corinthians 3:9 KJV)

The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter! (Lamentations 4:2 KJV)

Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? (Romans 9:21-24 KJV)
