Bible Study Outline on Astral Projection

Astral projection is the traveling of the soul out of your body. It can happen voluntarily or involuntarily. An involuntary out of body experience (OBE) can happen when you experience a near death, trauma or asleep. Many people have claimed that their souls travel through a tunnel with a bright light at the end in their near death experiences.  The tunnel is a passage way into heaven. Involuntary out of body experience is quite common.

On the other hand, voluntary out of body experience (OBE), also known as astral projection, is usually performed by people who are curious to connect with the spiritual world. They use various methods including drugs, occult or yoga methods to move their spirits out of the body. Many people practice astral projection to travel to distant places around the world , visit their relatives or explore the universe. Christians are advised not get involved in this type of practice as it is associated with occult.

God forbids practice of occult and necromancy in the bible. Anyone who practice occult, psychic, teleportation, telekinesis, and necromancy will not inherit eternal life. Some Christians argued that astral projection is biblical as it is a gift of God. They claimed that they are using their psychic abilities for good reason so it is not a sin. However, the bible clearly states that such practices are abominations to God so we should not practice them.

The apostle Paul mentioned about his out of body experience in 2 Corinthians 12:1-5 KJV, “It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord. I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven. And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.”

When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God. For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do. (Deuteronomy 18:9-14 KJV)

Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:31 KJV)

And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? (Isaiah 8:19 KJV)

And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger. (2 Kings 21:6 KJV)

And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. (Leviticus 20:6 KJV)

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. (Revelation 21:8 KJV)

And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger. (2 Chronicles 33:6 KJV)
