Bible Study Outline on Committing Suicide

What is Committing Suicide?

Suicide is one of the most popular causes of death every year. Every year, more and more people are committing suicide. The World Health Organization ranks suicide as the 13th leading cause of death around the globe. According to the World Health Organization, it is the 6th leading cause of death in America. Many people decided to kill themselves because they undergo problems that they don’t know how to solve such as financial problem, depression, health problems, and etc. Putting your life to an end is a sin against God.

Why Committing Suicide is a Sin?

Christians who commit suicide will go to hell. In Revelation 21:8, the cowardly, faithless, detestable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and liars will end up in hell. Some people think that they will go to heaven after committing suicide because they believe in Jesus Christ. God created each one of us in the mother’s womb. The life you now have is a gift of God. God wants us to treasure our lives. If you don’t treasure the life God gives you, you have sinned against God.

In Exodus 20:13, God prohibits murder. In 1 Corinthians 3:17, God will destroy anyone who destroy God’s temple. God’s temple is holy and you are his temple. In 1 Corinthians 3:19-20, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, whom you have received from God. All believers have the Holy Spirit. Now that the Holy Spirit dwells in you, you are no longer your own, but you now belong to God so you must use your body to honor God.

God Can Give You the Answer to Your Problem

God is the source of all things. He is our creators. When you have problem, you should come to God. Jesus said he is the truth, way and life and no man can come to the Father except through him (John 14:16; 1 John 5:20). Jesus is the life and he gives light to men (John 1:4). Jesus said all who are burdened and weary can come to him (Matthew 11:28-30). Anyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13).

In 1 Corinthians 10:13, no temptation has seized you except what is common to men. God will never let you be tempted beyond your ability. If you are tempted, God will also provide a way to escape so that you can stand up under it. In John 6:33, Jesus said there will be troubles in this world but take heart because he has overcome the world. It is not that after you become a Christian, you will have no more problems. After you become a Christian, you will still have problem but the difference is that you now know God and you can pray to him and ask him to help you.

Jesus has bore for our sins and weaknesses on the cross (1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 10:5; Titus 2:14). He was raised to life from death on the third day. He has overcome the final enemy, death and resurrected and now sit on the right hand side of God and reign in all authority in heaven (Mark 16:19). Jesus Christ will appear for a second time to bring salvation to his faithful followers (Hebrews 9:28). Now, all you need to do is to believe and claim the healing from God. When you believe in God, God will heal you.

When you face problem, you should not trust in yourself, or turn to men or the things of this world to solve it. Instead, you should bring the problem before God. In 1 John 5:4, everyone that is born of God has overcome the world. In 1 Corinthians 15:57, God gives us victory through the Lord Jesus Christ.

In 1 John 4:4, we have overcome the world because the one who is in us is greater than the one who is in the world. The world is under the power of Satan so you are under the power of Satan if you condone to the practices of the world. If you abide in Jesus and do his commandments, you will have overcome the world. In John 15:4, if you remain in Jesus, Jesus will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit itself unless it remained in the wine. This principle applies to Christians as well. No follower can bear fruit unless he or she remained in Jesus.

If you have tried to commit suicide in the past, you must ask Jesus to forgive your sin. In 1 John 1:9, if you confess your sins, God is faithful and just and he will forgive you your sins and purify you from all unrighteousness.
