What is Dressing Modestly?

 

Dressing modestly means clothing yourself modestly, not putting emphasis on branded or fashionable clothes. You just need to dress neatly, not expensively with all kinds of branded clothes. There are many Christians that dress themselves according to the latest fashion. In Romans 12:2, we should not conformed to this world: but constantly renew our mind so that we can know the good, acceptable, and perfect, will of God. In 1 John 2:15-17, don’t love anything in this world. Anyone who love the world does not have the love of the Father. All that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. The world will one day pass away but he that do the will of God abide for ever.

 

 

 

 

 

Following the Fashion Trend is Worldliness

 

Nowadays, many Christians like to follow the fashion trend. Following the fashion trend is of the world. Instead, women should adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety, not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array but (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works (1 Timothy 2:9-10). In 1 Peter 3:3-4, don’t let your adorning not be on the outward such as plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

 

Some Christians are vain and they spend lots of money on buying cosmetics, clothes and shoes. This is a sin. As a born again Christian, you don’t live for yourself but for God now. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things has passed away and all things have become new. In Romans 8:1, there is now no condemnation to them that are in Jesus Christ, who does not walk after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

 

Whatever you do should give glory to God (1 Corinthians 10:31; Colossians 3:17). Your lifestyle should let people see that you are set apart for God so that the non believers can see the testimony of Jesus Christ. If you wear extravagantly, the non believers will know that you are of this world. If you are of this world just like them, you will be under the power of Satan, who is the ruler of this earth. In Ephesians 2:2, in the past, we walked according to the course of the world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that works in the children of disobedience.

 

You must stop walking according to the ways of this world like you used to before accepting Jesus Christ and start putting Jesus Christ at the center of your lifestyle. We must set ourselves from the world to God so that other people can see the light of Jesus Christ in us. In 1 Peter 2:9, we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that we may give praises to God who had called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.

 

We should also avoid wearing sexy clothes. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit so you should use it to glorify God (1 Corinthians 6:19). In Romans 12:1, we should present our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is our spiritual worship.

 

Men Don’t Wear Women’s Clothes and Women Don’t Wear Men’s Clothes

 

Men should wear men’s clothes and women should not wear men clothes. In Deuteronomy 22:5, The woman shall not wear that which pertain unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God. There are many women who like to act tomboy and wear men clothes. If a woman is to wear trousers, she should wear a woman style trousers like women jeans. A woman should not cut her hair too short so that he looks like a man. A man should not have long hair so that he look likes a woman. Women can cut their hair short, but it should be women style hair, and not men style short hair.
