To be a Christian is not just attending the church on Sunday. You must do more to follow Jesus. There are two important factors that you need to take into account in order to truly follow Jesus including faith in God and obedient in walking in his commandments. You will not automatically be saved after conversion. You have to make a decision to live a holy life and avoid all kinds of sins. God wants us to be holy as he is holy. Only those who live holy lifestyles can come near God. We should not halfheartedly follow Jesus and compromise with the world to allow some sins in our lives.

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. (Luke 9:23 KJV)

As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation;Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. (1 Peter 1:14-16 KJV)

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (Romans 12:2 KJV)

Surrender Yourself Completely to God

Surrender

If you want to be fully committed in following Jesus, you must completely surrender all areas of your life to God including finances, health, job, and family. In finances, we must trust God that he will provide us abundantly. You should give to God a tithe of all your earnings. Christians must not be materialistic but live simple and modest life.

Christians must get rid of all your bad habits such as alcoholism, smoking, quarrelsome, grumbling, fighting, hatred, jealousy, bad spending habit, materialism, selfishness, stingy, and other kinds of worldliness. You can get help in eliminating all these bad habits through praying to God. You can ask God to stop all these bad habits in your life. If you are truly sincere in repenting, the Holy Spirit will help you.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 KJV)

I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. (John 15:1-7 KJV)

O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. (Jeremiah 10:23 KJV)

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (James 4:10 KJV)

Faith in God

faith

Christians must have faith in God. We should always rely on God in all issues in life. You should always listen to the Holy Spirit and follow his leading . In this way, you will be able to do God’s will. If you have faith, you will have deeds. You can show your deeds by caring for the needy people. Love is the most important of the three, which are faith, hope and love. Your motive must be love in everything you do. Our love comes from God. We love because God love us first. God is love.

Prayer can strengthen your faith. Every day, you should spend some time to pray and worship God as this will bring you closer to him. God can give you a clear direction on the life path ahead of you if you surrender your future to him. By following God’s leading, you will be spared a lot of troubles and mistakes which could have happen if you follow your own plan.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17 KJV)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 KJV)

And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (Mark 11:22-24 KJV)

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. (Matthew 21:22 KJV)

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV)

For with God nothing shall be impossible. (Luke 1:37 KJV)

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. (James 2:24 KJV)

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 KJV)

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. (James 2:14-17 KJV)

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:5 KJV)
