Bible Study Outline on Good Tree and Bad Tree
Matthew 7:15-20 states that a good tree cannot bear bad fruits while a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Good tree refers to those who abide in God’s commandments and are led by the Holy Spirit. Only people who have led a sound lives according to God’s commandments in the bible can bear good fruits. A good fruit is a fruit that is healthy and free from diseases. If a person is completely obedient and submissive to God, he will not give a chance to sin so he is less likely to sin. A person who is obedient to God will always choose to walk in God’s commandments over doing things that gratify the desires of his flesh (Galatians 5:16-21; Galatians 5:24-25).
Everyone is a sinner and there will be some parts of our lives that we need to change so that we can become more and more like Jesus Christ. After conversion, you must stop sinning and make the decision to live your life for God. If you can’t overcome your weakness to sin, you can ask God to help you. God will help you if you are sincere in repenting. You will find that your life slowly change and you start to develop the fruit of the Holy Spirit one by one when you completely surrender your life to Jesus. It can be difficult to develop all the 9 fruit of the Holy Spirit but you can ask God to help you through prayer (Galatians 5:22-23).
Bad tree are Christians who choose to live a sinful life rather than living their lives for God. There are many false teachings about Christianity in the world. Many people have been led astray due to following the false teachings of false preachers (Colossians 2:8). For example, many Christians now condone homosexuality and support it. Many Christians have mix worldliness into the church by singing and dancing to secular songs, taking every opportunity to use the church as a tool to make money, using disco lighting at the church and etc (Romans 12:2; 1 John 2:15-17). Many Christians also approve compromising to the practices of the world such as Zen meditation, yoga, martial arts and etc for their own conveniences (Ephesians 2:2). Compromising with the world will cause you to lose your salvation (Ephesians 5:11; 2 Corinthians 4:4).
Some Christians think that you will get saved as long as you believe in Jesus so it is no longer necessary to do God’s commandments. Doing God’s commandment is necessary in order to inherit eternal life and enter into the kingdom of God. Many Christians want to believe in the philosophy once saved always saved so that it will give them license to do any sinful stuff they want and think they will still get saved. Disobedient Christians always want to compromise so that they are able their own purpose.
If you have set your mind to follow Jesus, you would want to pause and think what others preach so that you won’t sin. If you want to be a Christian that bears good fruits, you must deny yourself and live your life for God (Matthew 16:24). We are all selfish and know how to look after our own interests (Romans 13:8). When you deny yourself, you will think of God’s commandments in everything you do. A good Christians will show love towards others including human beings and animals because the second most important commandment in the bible is to love yourself as others (Mark 12:31).
