Bible Study Outline on New Heaven and New Earth

Jesus Christ is soon coming back for the second time. The bible says that Jesus’ second coming will occur like a thief, because no one will be expecting it. After that, God’s judgement will take place. Everyone will be judged according to their deeds and the words they say. God promised that there will be a new heaven and earth after the judgement day. God is the creator of the first heaven and earth so he will be the one that bring about the new heaven and new earth.

The first heaven and earth are reserved for judgment 2 Peter 3:10,12 records that there will be a great noise when the first heaven and earth is passed away. The elenebts of the earth and all the works of the earth will be destroyed with a fervent heat. It is not recorded whether the new heaven and new earth will be inhibited once again after the second coming. He also did not claim that the Lord Jesus Christ will reign on earth after the Second Coming.

On the judgment day, the book of life will be opened as the Lord Jesus Christ bring his judgment on the people. Sinners will be punished. Second death awaits the sinners. They will be thrown into the lake of sulfer and be seprated from God eternally. They were sent to hell because they love their lives more than Jesus. They feared persecutio and renounced their faith because of they refused to serve Jesus when it cost their lives. The righteous will be rewarded for their faithfulness while on earth. The faithful will have an eternal home with God as they hold on to His promises. They did not exchange their hope for their sufferings.

There is a possibility that the new heaven and earth described in Revelation is a physical heaven and earth. There are others who suggest that it is referring to a new covenant relationship with mankind. Once we get to heaven, we will be with the Lord forever. Nothing will be able to grab us from the hand of God. Psalm 78:69 states that God created the heavens and earth which are to be last forever, “And he built his sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which he hath established for ever.” (Psalm 78:69)

Heaven is the place where the saved will go. Believers have one hope, and their hope is in heaven. It is a place where there will be no more death.

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. (2 Peter 2:13 KJV)

For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain. (Isaiah 66:22 KJV)

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. (Revelation 21:1-4 KJV)
