Why Smoking is a Sin?

When you accepted Jesus Christ as your lord and savior, the Holy Spirit comes and dwell in you and your body becomes a temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:16). Since your body is the temple of God, you should use it to glorify God in whatever you do (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). When you smoke, the smoke enter into your body, where the Holy Spirit dwells. In 1 Corinthians 6:17, God will destroy anyone who destroy his temple. The temple of God is holy and you are his temple.

Jesus bought us for a price by letting himself being crucified on the cross so that we can reconcile to God and receive forgiveness of sins. He redeemed us with the precious blood of Jesus Christ, a lamb without blemish (1 Peter 1:18-19). Therefore, we should glorify God with our bodies (1 Corinthians 6:20). In Romans 12:1, in view of God’s mercy towards us, we must offer our bodies as living sacrifices to God. This is a holy and pleasing to God. This is a way to worship. In Philippians 1:20, Jesus Christ should always be exalted in your body, whether by life or by death.

Smoking can damage your health and cause you to have various kinds of diseases including poor blood circulation, angina, stroke, lung cancer, mouth cancer and heart attack. As God’s temple, you should always take care of your body and keep it healthy. In James 4:17, you sin when you know the right thing to do but fails to do it. In Luke 12:47, the servant who know God’s will yet does not get ready or do it will be beaten with many blows. In John 9:41, Jesus said those who are blind will not be guilty of sin but those who claim to see, their guilt remains. In 2 Peter 2:21, it would have been better for them who not know the way of righteousness than to know it yet turn away from it. In Hebrews 10:26, if you continue to sin deliberately after receiving the truth, the sacrifice Jesus made for you as a sinner will be useless.

Whatever we do, we should do it in Jesus name so that we can glorify God (Colossians 3:17). In 1 Corinthians 10:31, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, you should do it all for God’s glory.

How to Stop Smoking?

If you have difficulty in overcoming your smoking addiction, you should pray to the Holy Spirit and ask him to help you. The Holy Spirit is our helper and he helps us in all things (John 14:26). The Holy Spirit can help you to curb your smoking addiction so that you no longer want to smoke anymore.

Christians must die to their own selves and stop gratifying their fleshly desires. Instead, you should set your mind on the things of God and live your life by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:5). When you set your mind to follow God, the Holy Spirit will guide you and change you into more and more like Jesus.
