Bible Study Outline on Stewardship of Time
Every day, we have 24 hours. We are to use our time wisely so that it gives glory to God. We should not spend time on useless activities that will not benefit our relationship with God. Many Christians have poor stewardship of time. They do not pay their bills by the due date. As a result, they become in debt. Many also do not save properly for their future. Ephesians 5:6 tells us to make the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. Today, the world is full of all kinds of bad influences. There are TV shows and music that influence people to do negative things. This is why you need to discipline your body otherwise you will lead a lifestyle that does not glorify God such as laziness, gossiping, play games for the whole day, and etc.
James 4:13-17 states that we don’t know what will happen in the future and we should not boast about it. It is common for people to boast about what they want to do in the future, as everyone want the best for themselves. You should just say what you will do if it is God’s will. Instead of worrying about tomorrow, we should think of the present time. God is in control of all things. It is God who establish a man’s plan. If God does not allow it, nothing can happen.
Romans 14:12 says that each of us will have to give an account about ourselves to God. You reap what you sow. If you spend your time in serving God and doing things that please him, you will accumulate treasures in heaven. Matthew 6:19 tells us that we should not be busy about hoarding treasures on earth where moths and vermin can destroy and where there are thieves who can steal them. On the contrary, we are to put our mind into accumulating treasures in heaven, where there are no moth, vermin or thieves. Jesus say your treasure is where your heart is. If you love God, you will spend your time in serving God and this will show in the reward you’ll receive when you enter into the kingdom of God in heaven.
Therefore, you must ask yourself this question at the end of the day, if you have spend any of it for the kingdom of God. God wants us to live our lives according to the standards of the Spirit. Most people will choose to live their lives by the flesh, doing what they want over putting God in priority. Christians should always put Christ in priority in their lives no matter what they do so that they will bring glory to God.
Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. (Colossians 4:5 KJV)
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. (Psalm 90:12 KJV)
See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; (Ephesians 5:15-20 KJV)
Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. (1 Corinthians 16:2 KJV)
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. (1 Corinthians 3:16-17 KJV)
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV)
So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. (Romans 14:12 KJV)
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: (Matthew 6:19 KJV)
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (James 4:13-17 KJV)
Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. (Ephesians 5:6 KJV)
