The Queen of Sheba visited Solomon in Jerusalem on purposes of trading. However, she was also curious to find out if all the reports concerning Solomon’s wisdom and wealth are true. Sheba is the ancient name for modern Yemen. According to historical facts, Yemen was ruled by kings and queens. The queen of Sheba came to visit Jerusalem when it is at its zenith.¬†She came with a large retinue of important persons and goods including gold, spices and precious stones. She challenged Solomon with all kinds of difficult questions and he answered all of them correctly and wisely. When the queen saw Solomon’s splendor, she was amazed because of the overwhelming glory and wisdom that were displayed. After seeing Solomon’s splendor, the queen realized that the report she has heard concerning Solomon are true.

Jesus Used Queen of Sheba as Example

29. de Heere, Lucas - Solomon And The Queen Of Sheba

Jesus Christ used the queen of Sheba as an example of a person who seek Jesus and God’s kingdom. The queen of Sheba came from very far distance to question and learn from Solomon’s wisdom.

In Matthew 12:42 KJV, The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

In this passage, Jesus is trying to say that the Jews had disowned Jesus, the Messiah that they believed will come from the family line of David. The queen of Sheba, a foreigner, traveled so far to Jerusalem to hear Solomon’s wisdom yet Jesus’ wisdom incredibly excelled him but the Jews did not seek after him at all. Therefore, the queen of Sheba will rise up at judgment day to condemn the Jews. The Jews rejected Jesus Christ as their Messiah by trying to find faults with the miracles he performed. They were the one who caused Jesus Christ to be sentenced to the crucifixion.
