Bible Study Outline on the Spirit of Jezebel
What is the Spirit of Jezebel?
Usually, when people say you have the spirit of Jezebel, it means that the person display the character of the evil queen of King Ahab, Queen Jezebel. The story of Queen Jezebel can be found in the books of 1 Kings and 2 Kings.
In Revelation 2:19-25, I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works. But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden. But that which ye have already hold fast till I come
The Spirit of Jezebel Likes to Dominate Over Others
There are 2 prominent traits in Queen Jezebel. The first trait is Jezebel like to take control over things. As soon as Jezebel become queen, she tried to reinforce her religion in the land by getting rid of all the prophets that worship Jehovah.
In 1 Kings 18, for it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.) Elijah challenged King Ahab to a contest at Mount Carmel to see whose God’s is real by sending fire down to burn the sacrifices. The 450 prophets of Baal sing, dance, cut themselves and cried out until evening yet nothing happened. But Elijah had a trench dug around the altar he built and poured in 8 large jars of water in it and then called on God to send fire down to burn the sacrifice. God did what Elijah prayed for and fire fell and consumed the sacrifice on the wood. The fire also licked up the water in the trench. Then, Elijah ordered that all the Baal prophets be killed. When Jezebel found out that Elijah had killed the Baal prophets, Jezebel wanted to revenge and kill him (1 Kings 19:1-2).
Another incident is Jezebel helping Ahab to take over the vineyard of Naboth. Naboth refused to trade his vineyard with Ahab for other lands because it was a family inheritance. When Jezebel saw how Ahab was upset over it, she wrote letter to the town elders and instructed them to hire 2 false witnesses to testify against Naboth that he had cursed God and the king. Then, they are to take Naboth out the city and stone him to death. They followed Jezebel’s instruction and had Naboth stoned to death.
The two incidents above showed that Jezebel likes to control things so that things will happen in her way. People with the spirit of Jezebel like like to dominate and control others, just like a bossy supervisor. They will try to take things into their own hand and control you so that you can do things in her way. The person may become easily irritated if you don’t do what he demands. Such people may also often grumble and complained about being bullied or that no one understand their circumstances.
It is wrong to always try to dominate over others. We must learn to respect other people and give way. We should treat others the way we want them to treat us. If you don’t like people to be bossy over you, you should not do the same to others (Matthew 7:12). People with the spirit of Jezebel don’t like to admit their faults. They will always find excuses to put the blame on others but they will never admit that it is their wrong. They will try to convince that you are wrong and they are right so that you will feel guilty over it.
If you are someone like that, you should evaluate yourself to see if you are really the person in wrong. It is common for people to not like to admit their mistake and always try to find excuse to self justify themselves because no one likes criticism. But the truth is everyone is a sinner. If you are wrong, you must admit and confess it so that you can change. Otherwise, you will be under the dominion of Satan. In 1 John 1:8, If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. In Proverbs 20:9, who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin? In Ecclesiastes 7:20, for there is not a just man upon earth, that does good, and sins not.
The Spirit of Jezebel is a Spirit of Idolatry and Sexual Immorality
The second trait of Jezebel is idolatry and sexual immorality. The spirit of Jezebel is a spirit of seduction. It catches your weak point based on your spiritual or emotional attachment. Once it knows what you are attached to, it will try to seduce you into a soul tie. The soul tie is actually with a demonic spirit but the person would think it is his or her own thoughts. The spirit of Jezebel can use seduction o deceive and manipulate your mind. If you allow her into your life, it will go as far as possible. We must be careful in giving ourselves away into the lust of our flesh and mind. If you surrender yourself completely to God, the Holy Spirit will take control of your life and help you to walk in God’s commandments.
How to Fight the Spirit of Jezebel?
If you see someone with the spirit of Jezebel, you should confront him about it. You must be sure that you are dealing with the spirit of Jezebel that is controlling the person. You should confront the person about the work of the spirit of Jezebel in his life so that he can realize it and change. In addition, you should talk to the pastors about it and pray for him so that you can turn him to God. In James 5:19-20, Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. In Matthew 18:15-18, moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
