Bible Study Outline on Trinity

What is Trinity?

Trinity refers to God appears in three forms including Father God, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. In this universe, there is one God. The Father God is God. Jesus Christ is God. The Holy Spirit is God. All three are the same god and they have equal power. Each has different function. The Father God is the father of Jesus Christ, his son. He is our heavenly Father. Jesus Christ, the son of God, intercedes and pray for us. The Holy Spirit is our helper and he helps us in all things.

There are many bible verses that point out that there is only one God. In Deuteronomy 4:35 and Mark 12:32, the Lord is God and there is no one else besides him. In 1 Corinthians 8:4, an idol is nothing and that there is no God but one. In 1 Corinthians 8:6, there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things and we exist for him, one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, we exist through him. In Exodus 8:10, there is no one like the Lord our God. The Lord he is God above and there is no other like him (Deuteronomy 4:39; Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Kings 8:60; Isaiah 45:5; Isaiah 44:8; Isaiah 44:6; 2 Samuel 2:2).

In Deuteronomy 7:9, the Lord your God is God. He is a faithful God who keeps his covenant of love up to a thousand generations. In Deuteronomy 32:39, there is no God besides him. God put to death and bring to life. He has wounded and heal and no one can deliver out of his hand. In Deuteronomy 33:26, there is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens to help you and in his excellency on the sky. Jeshurun is a poetic term for Israel.

The Father God

God is love (1 John 4:8). In 1 John 4:19, we love because God love us first. Loving others is the most important commandment in the bible. God love both the righteous and wicked. In Matthew 5:45, God causes the sun to rise on the evil and good and send rain on the just and unjust. God so love the world that he sent his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins (John 3:16). If Jesus Christ did not come and atone for our sins, we will still be sinners and go to hell.

As disciples of Christ, we must love others so that others can see the image of God through us and come to faith in Jesus Christ. There are two kinds of love including sexual love and agape love. Sexual love is the love relationship between a man and woman. Agape love is the love of God. We must love others with agape love. We must love others, just as God loves us (John 13:34).

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the son of God (Matthew 3:13-17; 1 John 4:15). Jesus Christ is both God and man. His palms still retain the holes from the wound of the nails that fastened his hands onto the cross.

Jesus Christ acts as a mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5). Jesus Christ pray for us day and night in heaven. In Galatians 3:20, a mediator does not only represent one party but God is one.

Jesus Christ, according to his human nature, was David’s descendent but he was reincarnated into human through the virgin Mary by the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18). In 1 John 4:2-3, this is how we know the Spirit of God. Every spirit that acknowledge Jesus comes in the flesh is of God but every spirit that confess Jesus Christ did not come in the flesh is not of God. This is the spirit of antichrist, which will come at the end times but is already in the world.

Jesus Christ is our savior. No one can be saved unless he believe in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). In Romans 10:9, anyone who believe that Jesus Christ has been risen from the dead on the third day and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord can be saved. In Romans 3:30, there is only one God, who justify both the circumcised and uncircumcised. In 1 John 4:15, anyone who acknowledge Jesus is the son of God, God dwell in him and he in God.

Whenever you face problem, you should discuss it with Jesus Christ through prayer and let him help you. Jesus said all who are weary should come to him and he will give them rest (Matthew 11:28).

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He is our comforter and he help us in all the difficulties we face when we pray. The Holy Spirit will bring into your remembrance about all things, whatever God have said to you, so that you will walk on the path of righteousness. He is the small voice that speaks to you in your heart.

When the Holy Spirit speaks to you, you must not ignore him but listen to him and do what he tells you. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit will warn you about danger ahead so that you will be safe. The Holy Spirit can also give you advice on how to solve a difficult situation. When you do something wrong, the Holy Spirit can rebuke you and tell you about your sin so you need to confess and repent. The Holy Spirit is gentle and he will be grieved if you ignore him (Ephesians 4:30).

The Holy Spirit endows different spiritual gifts on the children of God. There are many types of spiritual gifts including the word of knowledge, faith by the same Spirit, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy,  discerning of spirits, divers kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues (1 Corinthians 12:4-10). We must use our spiritual gifts to edify others so that the church can be built up (1 Corinthians 14:5) and we can be strong in Christ.

The Holy Spirit gives us to ability to speak in tongue (Acts 2:1-13) and sing spiritual song (Ephesians 5:19). When you speak in tongue, you are uttering the mysteries with his spirit. No one understand the tongue language except God (1 Corinthians 14:2; Colossians 3:16).

The Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord. He is the seal of our salvation. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit so we must use every member of our bodies to honor God (1 Corinthians 6:19).
