Salt of the earth, refers to giving meaning of life to others who have not yet come to believe in Jesus Christ. The good news of the gospel is the best gift you can give to others. Everyone needs to come to know Jesus. When you have Jesus in your life, you will find your life change. If Jesus has change your life, you should also introduce him to others so that their lives can be changed and they can go to heaven too. Christians must shine their lights to others.
There is a reason that Jesus use salt to make a comparison to the life of believers. Salt is used for seasoning and perserving food. It is also an essential mineral that the bod needs. Every creature including human need salt in order to be in a healthy state. Salt aids in the regulation of the water content in the body system. Jesus is using salt to describe Christians should evangelize and help others so that there will be balance in the corrupted world.
If a Christian does not know how to evangelize and does not live out the exemplary life of Jesus Christ, he cannot be called salt anymore. He would be just the same as the sand. Everyone faces problems. Before problem happen, you may have full trust in God. After problem occured, you may lose your trust in God and stop living a life for God like before. You must always be vigilant and not anything come in to corrupt your mind and lead you astray from God.
Being the salt of the earth does not just mean spreading the gospel. You also have to display love in your life. Loving others is the most important commandments in the bible. You must love others and be ready to help those who come to you with a need. If you cannot help the person, you can refer him to someone else who can help. If you want to be Jesus’ disciple, you must carry your cross daily. This mean to put Jesus first in your life over other things.
Christians must keep their lives holy so that they will be a good testimony to the non believers. If you have a good role model, people will want to come to know this Jesus who can change your life. We are to live in peace and harmony with everyone.
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Luke 14:34-35 KJV)
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16 KJV)
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. (Mark 9:50 KJV)
For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! (1 Corinthians 9:16 KJV)
