The Holy Spirit lives in every believer. His function is as our comforter and helper. He do works. For example, in Genesis 1, when God create the earth, he said the word, and the Holy Spirit fulfill it. God said Let there be light and the Holy Spirit create the light. Jesus Christ functions as a mediator and intercedes for us in heaven day and night. However, there is only one God. The Father God, Lord Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are the same one God.
The Holy Spirit provides guidance to us and teach us to do God’s will. What the Holy Spirit said is always consistent with what the bible teaches. You can pray to the Holy Spirit and ask him to help you solve your problem. Praying to the Holy Spirit is just the same like praying to the Father God and Lord Jesus Christ. You start the prayer with dear Holy Spirit and then say your prayer request and end it with in Jesus name Amen.
The Holy Spirit can empower you to do things in God’s plan. For example, the Holy Spirit empowered Samson so that he has great strength and able to do things that people with normal strength cannot do such as tear the lion like a young goat while on his way to meet his future wife in Timnah, carry the gate of Gaza to the hill top, use a donkey jawbone to defeat 1,000 Philistines and pushing the pillars of the temple of Dagon and making it collapse.
The Holy Spirit enables us to speak in tongue. When you pray in tongue, you are praying in a language that only God can understand. No one can understand what you pray. He searches our hearts and know our thoughts and emotions. He will intercede to God about your problems and needs when you pray in tongue. Speaking in tongue can only edify and build up your relationship with God. It is contrary to praying in words, in which those who listen can understand and be built up.
The Holy Spirit is our seal of redemption. If you are a child of God, you will have the Holy Spirit. This does not mean that only those who speak in tongue have the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongue is one of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit. There are 9 fruit of the Spirit. You are to cultivate these 9 fruit to set a good role model as a Christian. Complete submission to God will enable the Holy Spirit to change you inward slowly until you develop the 9 fruit of the Spirit.

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
