Why did Jesus Say the Father is Greater than I?

Jesus Christ and the Father God and the Holy Spirit are all one God. There is only one God but three different positions. Jesus Christ acts as the mediator between God and man. The Father God is God head. The Holy Spirit is the comforter and advocator. The Holy Spirit do works when we pray. There are some places in the bible where Jesus called the Father as his God. However, this does not mean that Jesus is not God or that he is in lower status than him. It is probable that Jesus refers the Father as greater than him because he is a man and God. Since he is a man, he is subjected to God just like us.

Jesus is not denying his identity when he says that the Father is greater than him. He just want to let people know about his human nature. Jesus Christ originally existed along with the Father God and the Holy Spirit from the beginning of time. He was reincarnated into a human through the virgin Mary. He became a man so that he could bore our sins and die for us on the cross.

After he resurrected from the dead, his hands still have the nail marks. The apostle Thomas did not believe that he saw Jesus Christ until he put his finger through the nail mark on Jesus’ hand (John 20:24-29) Jesus also ate with his disciples after the resurrection to show that he can also eat food just like human beings.

Jesus is God and you can also pray to him, just as you can pray to the Father God and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the only way to heaven. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved. Anyone who does not believe that Jesus Christ is God cannot inherit eternal life and enter into the kingdom of God. Anyone who deny Jesus Christ will not be saved. Jesus Christ said he will not acknoledge anyone who deny him before the Father God.

Therefore, it is useless if you just believe that the Father God is God or the Holy Spirit is God. You must believe all three including the Father God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit is God. There are certain Christian denominations that do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as God such as Mormon, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Science, Armstrongism, Christadelphians, Oneness Pentacostals, Unification Church, Unity School of Christianity and Scientology.

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me. And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them. (John 17:20-25 KJV)

My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one. (John 10:29-30 KJV)

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost (Matthew 28:19 KJV)

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (1 John 5:20 KJV)

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (Titus 2:13 KJV)

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (1 Timothy 3:16 KJV)

Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? (John 14:9 KJV)

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. (John 8:58 KJV)

That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. (John 5:23 KJV)

But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work. (John 5:17 KJV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. (John 1:1-2 KJV)

Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. (1 John 5:1-8 KJV)

All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. (John 16:15 KJV)

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (John 14:23 KJV)
